We're going to Rwanda in 2011. The original plan was to send a team in the summer of 2010 but recent developments and the need for fund raising has delayed the project until August of 2011. Foundation United Baptist Church, located in the community of Porters Lake, Nova Scotia, Canada, is a small church hoping to be a part of big changes for folks in Rwanda. Since their civil war in 1993 and the genocide of 1994 there is a huge need for schools for the Rwandan children. Education is their only hope for getting out of the incredible poverty that has inflicted this beautiful country.
Canadian Baptist Ministries has been helping the Rwandan people rebuild some of the schools that were destroyed or allowed to fall into ruin during the devastation. Now we are going to help.
Foundation has been part of the community of Porters Lake for over 25 years and we are counting on the community to be a big part of this effort. Fund raisers are going on for the next year to send the team on its way and we know the folks of Porters Lake will want to help.
The team has begun to assemble. Jodie Whyte, one of our local teachers is team leader and has experience in other missions to El Salvador and Hong Kong. Her sister Jamie is also going. She will be a teaching student at Presque Isle, Maine in the fall. Donna McQueen, one of our local nurses is also coming. Daniel Graveline will be one of our youngest members and Pastor Feltmate the oldest so far.
What Can I Do to Help?
- pray for the efforts
- support the fund raisers, there will be a few around
- donate to the project
- keep an eye on this web site, changes will happen often
At Foundation we see this as an opportunity for the whole community of Porters Lake to make a difference in the world. The people and especially the children of Rwanda need the support of the Global Community and we can be a real part of the effort.
